Services for Students with Disabilities

Academic Coaching

Academic Coaching is available to any student who is currently enrolled at Virginia Tech and officially registered with the Services for Students with Disabilities office. Coaching is available to help students in many areas related to academics, including, but not limited to: time management, study schedules, communicating with professors, managing projects, getting organized, using accommodations, improving test grades, and dealing with stress. Last year, students who received coaching had learning disabilities, ADHD, traumatic brain injury, psychiatric conditions, medical disabilities, and vision impairments.

You can be seen for an initial assessment of learning and performance skills to determine what is working well for you and what needs to change. Together, we will develop and implement a personalized plan of action to improve your ability to learn, study, and perform- and earn the grades you deserve. These services are confidential and free of charge.

What students are saying are saying about coaching:

"The coach was nice and encouraged me to keep trying."

"Note taking and test preparation (were the most effective for me)."

"It really helped to meet once a week to go over problems that occurred each week, as well as trying to improve each time. In the group workshop it was helpful just to see that there are others having some of the same problems and sharing with them."

"Academic Coaching helped me understand my medications, with advice for issues. It was friendly, responsive, and active."

"It helped with planning out my days and having a schedule."
